Polysmiths reimagines a Victorian apartment in Westminster, London as a luxury pied-à-terre, where Japanese "Ma" meets heritage architecture and rich materials.

Discover the Westminster Pied-a-terre, a highly bespoke interior design project in Victoria, London. Designed by Polysmiths, contrasting the historic Victorian interior with minimal, textural materials.

Polysmiths has transformed a 160-square-metre Victorian period apartment in Westminster, London, into a luxury pied-à-terre for a sophisticated, cosmopolitan globe-trotting couple. Inspired by Ma (間), the Japanese art of negative space, the design brings Japanese minimalism into dialogue with heritage architecture — walls left to breathe, surfaces allowed to be themselves, and every object placed so that space and light matter as much as the object itself.

Robust, tactile materials carry the story throughout: richly grained dark walnut cabinetry, pale and green marble, a Carrara marble portal, brass fittings and smoked oak floors. The result is a layered, intuitive home with the calm generosity of a great hotel and a character entirely personal to its owners.
