Helsinki Museum Competition - Finland (2024)

Concept design for a public cultural institution in Helsinki, Finland

In response to an international competition brief, Polysmiths developed a visionary museum proposal set within Helsinki’s urban fabric. The scheme reimagines the museum as an accessible, layered public space — where architecture, art, and landscape converge.

The concept integrates civic function and sensory experience. Volumes are organised around a central courtyard, forming a spatial rhythm of exhibition halls, gathering spaces, and immersive light wells. Sustainability and material tactility informed every aspect of the design — from its green roofscape to the locally-sourced timber and stone palette.

The result is an inclusive, forward-thinking cultural venue that engages both visitors and the wider city.
